Microphone FAQ

While streaming, you'll want a way to communicate with chat outside of just typing in chat. For this you'll use a microphone. There are many options out there from a variety of prices and you probably have a couple laying around - any of which should work. However, not all microphones are created equal.

Microphones generally fall into three categories:

  1. Webcam/built in mics (laptops for example) - Generally these are not the most ideal for streaming as they often pick up background noise or key/controller inputs easily.
  2. Headsets with built in mics - A good middle ground. There is a wide variety of headsets out there, some better than others. We suggest you do your research before making a purchase.
  3. Standalone/desk mics - Generally these are your more "professional" options. However, again, there are many to pick from and we suggest you research your options before making a purchase.

As always, keep in mind that when you're recording other people's voices, it is your responsibility to get their consent. This is true whether you're recording anyone in the same room as you, your friends playing with you, or players participating in the game's audio chat.
